New Guest House 5 - Summer 2018
So we never even got close to the May deadline! We lost a lot of time due to permitting and winter storms but we made great progress this summer! My contractor and his crew finished all of the siding, the roof, the pergola (a huge effort), all the decking, and my favorite splurge for the deck - the cable rails!

New Guest House 9 - Summer 2018
Our architect did a great job incorporating the new house into the property - not an easy task considering the shape and elevation of the site! The houses are not meant to match but they are meant to complement each other as we continue to upgrade the property over time.

Summer Guests - 2018
Every summer I try to see as many of my East Coast friends as possible while I am on the Cape. This year I got to see my good friend Ula who I met when we were all newly married and living in Houston thanks to Enron- (aka "the Evil E"). She came down from Maine for an overnight - no easy feat on a summer weekend! It amazes me that only a few years in Houston has led to a 20 year friendship!

Camp Kavanagh - Summer 2018
This year we were lucky enough to connect with close friends from Houston who also have a summer house on the Cape. The kids loved having some friends in the area and we took turns making the drive from one house to another - about 25 mins away depending on the tourists!

Camp Kavanagh 2 - Summer 2018
This year we tested out our plan to have the kids' friends come stay at the Cape for summer vacation. Their parents flew them to Boston towards the end of our trip, stayed a few days, then returned to Houston. I watched the kids and showed them around Cape Cod for about a week then we all flew home to Houston together. It was a lot of fun and gave us reassurance that the kids can still maintain their friendships while summering on the Cape!

Camp Kavanagh 3 - Summer 2018
One of the downsides of owning an older home is that things eventually start to break down - at very inopportune times! Unfortunately the fridge broke during our summer stay and took a shockingly long time to fix. We had also lost the laundry due to the guest house renovation so by August I was at my wit's end w 4 kids, no laundry and no fridge. Ultimately we managed w the local laundromat and our sturdy cooler. It was taxing but a good reminder that vacation is supposed to be an escape from every day tasks!

The Finished Product! Summer 2019
We are extremely thrilled with the new house and spent summer of 2019 furnishing it and bringing guests in from Houston to enjoy it. There are always more projects to be done of course but we will probably take a break for a while!

Summer 2019 - 2
For the 3rd summer in a row, we've had the pleasure of hosting our close friend's kids at the Cape House. My friend Lauren and her hubs typically fly them in from Houston, then I bring them back. This past summer was special since the girls are headed to different high schools.

Living His Best Life...
C has an amazing ability to find the most leisurely path in any situation. His ZEN-like existence is what makes him so hilarious.

Houston-Husband Express, 2019
We feel very fortunate to have homes in both Houston and Cape Cod. It's even more fun now that we have friends who are living the same life! My friend Phillipa whose kids went to the same school as ours live a few streets away in Houston and only abt 25 mins away from us on the Cape. Last summer we were able to visit them while a local news program did a special on their historic home.
