Pix > Lagos Move - Early Days
-
um, okaayy....
So despite the funny albeit crude comments some of my friends made over on facebook, this is a hair dryer. A hair dryer people. Get your minds out of the gutter!
-
Spring Break?
Technically my kids would have been on spring break in the states this week so it's fitting that we have spent so much time at the hotel pool!
-
St. Patrick's Day
I made sure we all had our St. Patty's Day attire, even in Lagos. Luckily we were invited to a party at one of the other compounds where K could show off her gear- thank you Target!
-
First Day of School!
After two weeks of hotel life, the kids were very excited to go to school and make some friends!
-
Morning Assembly - AIS
Every monday the school has an assembly in the main courtyard. I love all the flags!
-
Temporary Flat..
This is a pic of our temporary flat or "transit apartment" that we moved into about 10 days after arriving. We were happy to leave the hotel but also overwhelmed by the long to-buy list that awaited.
-
Blue? Lagoon
This is the view from our temporary flat and of the lagoon. The school is actually just across the waterway which would be a snap by water taxi - if they had them.
-
Beach Party
C got invited to a birthday party for a girl in his class and fortunately for us, it was in the compound. This is the little park across the street where the kids play and ride bikes.
-
Ikoyi Livin'
Someone else took this picture but this is a bird's eye view of our temporary apartment - as usual, the kids are over the moon about the pool - the top part is a hot tub!
-
March Madness
Getting our air shipment was like Christmas in March! K and her American Girl doll "Eleanor" each got new outfit as a special treat from Mom
-
March Madness - 2
C also got some special prezzies- a new Thomas the Train Pirate Ship toy which thankfully folds up and away for transport!
-
March Madness - 3
This is what I was most excited about! My coffee trio - espresso maker, coffee maker and manual milk frother- none of which require plugs, adaptors or any brain power on my part!
-
White Girl's Madness
This is one of the many Costco-sized products I stashed in the air shipment. I'm sure it's not as fresh as it was a month ago and yes, it's been sitting in a box in a warehouse for a few weeks, but it's Dunkin' Donuts and it makes me happy.
-
Spot of Tea
This was a last minute purchase in Houston before we left town. I had no business going to Crate & Barrel so close to the move, because, well I am incapable of not buying anything and/or redesigning an already well designed room. I also gave up critical space in my air shipment but I love it and true love lasts a lifetime.
-
DareDevil
K was excited to visit one of the other apartment complexes because it has this water slide. She still hasn't had proper swimming lessons but she is a fish!

Money Changers
This is one of the few places you can safely change currency that is not a bank. It is outside one of the major hotels. You look up the rate in the paper and then hope one of the dozens of business men inside are wiling to give it to you. When we first arrived, the money changers would only take $USD 100 bills and they had to be from 2006 or later. I was there every week for 3 months until we got our bank account set up. I started changing $200 at a time but realized that could barely cover groceries so I had to change $600 even $800 just to make the trip worthwhile.
